CONTEST THEME: “Spirit of the Islands”

What does the “Spirit of the Islands” mean to you? Express the unique spirit of the Aloha State and what makes Hawai‘i so special using the 737 airplane template we’ve provided on the Official Entry Form.

You do not have to include the Alaska Airlines Eskimo image or company logo as part of your design. You can utilize the entire area of the plane as shown on the Official Entry Form, for your artwork (and don’t worry about the windows — draw right over them!).

ELIGIBILITY

The Paint the Plane Contest is open to all students in grades kindergarten through 12 who attend State of Hawai‘i public schools or private schools, or who are in home-schooling programs.

Employees of Alaska Air Group and their dependents are not eligible to enter or win.

JUDGING

The Paint the Plane Contest will be judged by a panel of ten selected by Alaska Airlines, the Hawai‘i State Department of Education, and the Hawai‘i Association of Independent Schools. Preliminary judging will be conducted by selected members of the Pacific Islander Cultural Club, an employee resource group of Alaska Airlines. Judging will be based on originality, creativity, and ability to express the theme “Spirit of the Islands” in a positive and creative manner. Judging will not be based on the level of sophistication of the art. The judging panel will select three design finalists, which will be made available to Hawai‘i residents to vote for their favorite on this site. Voting period will be in December 2012. The results of the public vote will help determine the Grand Prize, Second Place and Third Place winners; however, Alaska Airlines reserves the right to select a Grand Prize winner who did not receive the most votes from the public. In addition to selecting the three finalists, the 10-member judging panel will choose an Honorable Mention from each grade level, kindergarten through 12.
